Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence - Department Head A well-established, multi-office UK law firm is looking to appoint an experienced Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence Solicitor to lead and develop its department in Manchester. The firm has a strong reputation across its key practice areas and is recognised by leading independent legal directories. It has a large, diverse workforce and operates a modern, paperless and hybrid-working environment. The Role: This is a senior leadership position, reporting directly to the Management Board, with responsibility for the continued development and performance of the Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence department. The successful candidate will: Lead and develop the Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence team, ensuring high standards of legal service and client care. Manage a complex caseload of high-value Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence matters from inception through to conclusion. Provide supervision, technical guidance and mentoring to solicitors, fee earners and support staff. Oversee litigation strategy, case progression and risk management across the department. Monitor departmental performance, productivity and financial targets. Drive business development and develop professional relationships to generate new opportunities. Support recruitment, training, performance management and succession planning. Maintain strong client care standards, particularly when dealing with sensitive and complex cases. Review medical records, expert evidence, schedules of loss and other key documentation on high-value matters. Represent the firm at relevant networking events, conferences and industry forums. The Department: The team advises individuals and families who have suffered serious injury or loss as a result of medical negligence, as well as handling a broad range of Personal Injury claims. Work includes: Clinical Negligence Medical misdiagnosis Hospital and surgical negligence Birth injury Dental negligence Cosmetic surgery claims Serious and catastrophic injury Fatal accident claims Road traffic accidents Employers' and public liability claims What We're Looking For Qualified Solicitor with 5+ years' PQE in Personal Injury and/or Clinical Negligence. Strong experience handling complex, high-value claims. Previous leadership and team management experience. Strong technical knowledge across Personal Injury and/or Clinical Negligence. Excellent client care and communication skills. Proven business development and networking experience. Strong commercial awareness and an interest in departmental growth. Experience supervising litigated matters and advocacy experience would be advantageous. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. A current and valid practising certificate.
