Charities Lawyer - Leeds (NQ)
Advisory & Cross-Disciplinary Role | Leading National Firm
An opportunity has arisen for a junior Charities Lawyer to join the thriving charities and not-for-profit team of a highly regarded UK law firm, based in its Leeds office. This is a chance to join a collaborative and growing national practice with a real commitment to the sector.
The Opportunity
You'll be part of a team advising a diverse client base, including educational institutions, religious and cultural organisations, grant-makers, service providers, and philanthropic corporate foundations. The team handles a wide range of legal work, including:
Charity formation, registration, and constitutional matters
Governance and regulatory compliance, including Charity Commission inquiries
Commercial contracts, grant agreements, and collaborative ventures
Fundraising, trading subsidiaries, and tax reliefs including Gift Aid
Ethical investments, real estate matters, and permanent endowment issues
Charity mergers, restructuring, and support for wider corporate transactions
You'll work alongside specialist colleagues across corporate, commercial, property, tax and employment - so this is ideal for someone who enjoys variety and cross-practice collaboration.
About You
We're keen to speak with candidates who:
Are NQ or recently qualified, with relevant training or post-qualification experience, even if it's not in the Charities sector specifically.
Have a strong interest in the charity and not-for-profit sector
Are technically sound, commercially aware, and keen to build client relationships
Ideally have a little exposure to charity law or governance work (e.g. from private client, corporate, or education sectors) but the firm has been clear that you do not need specific experience in this sector to be considered, as it is a niche sector.
This is a great opportunity to develop a niche specialism in a team with a strong national profile and broad client base.
What's on Offer?
A varied and intellectually rewarding caseload
Excellent supervision and genuine career development prospects
Competitive salary and benefits package
A hybrid, flexible working model
A welcoming team culture with an emphasis on purpose-driven work
Location: Leeds (with hybrid working)
Level: NQ
