Principal Associate - Commercial Projects Solicitor
An opportunity for a senior Commercial Projects Solicitor to join this Top 50 law firm as part of its nationally recognised Commercial Projects team. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced commercial lawyer (minimum 7 PQE) looking to make a strategic career move into a high-impact role involving complex, high-value projects for both public and private sector clients.
The Opportunity
This is not just another legal role - it's a chance to work on strategic, nationally significant projects, often in collaboration with central government departments, including the Ministry of Defence. You'll be joining a dynamic, high-performing team advising on commercial contracts, complex procurements, PFI expiry, and innovative contracting structures, with genuine exposure to cutting-edge public-private partnerships.
As a Principal Associate, you'll be given early responsibility, client-facing work, and the freedom to manage your own matters. You'll also play a key role in mentoring junior lawyers, contributing to client training and BD initiatives, and helping to shape the growth of the national projects practice.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on the structuring, negotiation, and delivery of complex commercial contracts, including financial and technical schedules.
Advise public sector clients on major projects and strategic procurements, including support on Model Services Contracts.
Take the lead on matters involving PFI expiry/variation and future partnership models.
Act as a trusted advisor to government departments, contracting authorities, and major corporates contracting with government.
Supervise and mentor junior team members, delivering training internally and to clients.
Engage in business development activity including client pitches, tenders, and events.
Optionally, develop your expertise in public procurement law.
About You
A commercially astute, confident, and collaborative solicitor who brings:
7+ years' PQE in commercial law (UK qualified or equivalent).
Experience acting for or contracting with UK government departments or major public sector clients.
Strong drafting skills, ideally with knowledge of the Model Services Contract.
Public procurement experience and/or existing Security Clearance would be advantageous, but not essential.
Why Apply?
Regular involvement in high-value, nationally important projects.
Flexible working with hybrid options.
Join a Legal 500-ranked team within one of the Sunday Times Best Places to Work and a Platinum Investors in People employer.
Lead high-profile matters, build your BD profile, and progress your leadership credentials in a truly collaborative environment.
Competitive salary & benefits package, including tailored training, generous leave, and a transparent career path.
