A growing law firm in New York is seeking a Private Investment Funds Attorney with 3+ years of experience to join their expanding team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new function, not just a small cog in a larger machine. The firm is looking to build out its private investment funds practice, and you will have a direct impact on its growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Represent both fund sponsors and investors in the formation and operation of private investment funds
Handle a blend of venture capital (tech-focused) and private equity funds
Work on sponsor-level transactions, including general partner and management company matters
Manage secondary transactions involving limited partners or portfolio company interests
Draft and negotiate fund documents, side letters, and other key agreements
What We're Looking For:
3+ years of experience in private investment fund formation, ideally with some exposure to both venture and private equity funds
Background in corporate law at a well-established national or international law firm
Strong experience working with both fund sponsors and investors
6th-year associate preferred, although the firm is open to considering slightly more senior candidates for the right fit
A J.D. from a recognized law school with strong academic credentials
Firm Overview & Opportunity:
The firm's Private Investment Funds practice is still growing, offering significant career growth opportunities in a collaborative environment
While the practice has traditionally focused on venture funds with a tech client base, there is now an increased emphasis on building out private equity funds
This role provides a good mix of work, offering exposure to a variety of fund types, with the opportunity to work directly with senior partners who are well-respected in the funds world, including David Selden and Jacqueline Rabin
40 attorneys nationwide across 25 non-partners, 3 partners in New York, 4 associates, and 2 special counsels
You will be part of a small, yet highly impactful team where your contributions will directly shape the practice's future
Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive salary starting at $260,000+, dependent on experience and location
Comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and more
Generous time off: 4 weeks of vacation, 2 weeks of sick time, plus 10 paid holidays
Additional benefits like parental leave, fertility support, and pre-tax commuter benefits
If you are looking for a growth-oriented role within a dynamic firm that values individual impact and offers a good blend of venture and private equity fund work, this is an excellent opportunity.
