Changing conveyancing jobs - moving with the times?

My job is helping legal professionals in their quest for change; more specifically, changing conveyancing jobs. I recently changed desk (not the same scale as a career change but more on this below!!) and it got me thinking: is it a good thing (or not)? And what impact does your outlook (on change) have on your legal career?

Firstly, we can all agree that some people like it and others don’t. For those who don’t, why? Is it fear of the unknown? Liking ones own comforts? ‘I can’t be bothered’ mentality?

It’s crazy how a small change can boost morale and give you a different perspective on things.

A seemingly silly analogy that makes a point

It seems silly, but after spending nearly four years sat at the same bank of desks, I say ‘bring it on’ to change (it means being closer to the kitchen to have first grabs on birthday treats!). My thought process is a new outlook, new start, room for growth, and who knows what the next four years will bring. I haven’t moved far, by the way, I’m still on the same floor and sat a stone’s throw away from my old desk, but it’s crazy how a small change can boost morale and give you a different perspective on things. They say change is as good as a holiday, and if this is what small change achieves, what about bigger change?

Change is always good when you're ready for it

Whether you like change or not, what we’re really discussing is what it can do and whether it’s a good or bad thing. There’s no black and white answer because it’s completely circumstantial. You know if you’re ready for change. And if you don’t, there are plenty of red flags to look out for.

If you’re a little unsure, ask yourself: are you working for a forward-thinking firm? Does the managing partner strive for success; always thinking about how to improve and become the best possible version of the business? If so, brilliant; you’ve landed yourself a conveyancing job with a law firm that’s going places. If not, and you feel you’re stuck in a rut (perhaps you feel like you’re doing the same mundane thing day-in and day-out), then really, when it comes to change, what are you waiting for? Don’t sit around and wait. Do something about it. You’re the driver to make the move. In the words of Barak Obama: “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

The current conveyancing market

The conveyancing market is busy with conveyancing jobs aplenty. I’m working on some really unique and bespoke opportunities across all levels within fast-paced and forward-thinking firms that are growing from strength to strength.
