Interview with Paul Attwood, Commercial and IP Partner at DWF

Q What is your role at DWF?

Partner in the Commercial and Intellectual Property team based in DWF's Liverpool office with a specialism in the food industry.

Q Why did you become a solicitor?

To be honest I couldn't really think of anything else at the time and my Dad said it was a good idea!

Q Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?

The Cross Keys Public House at 6pm on a Friday evening.

Q What's the best thing about your job?

Advising some really interesting clients in a range of different industries, but in particular the food industry where I spent a number of years in-house before joining DWF.

Q What has been the greatest achievement in your profession to date?

Making the transition from in-house lawyer back into private practice and working with clients and utilising the skills learned in the food industry.

Q What would you have been if you weren't a lawyer?

I would like to say professional guitar player, but an accountant is probably nearer to the truth!

Q What would you advise lawyers beginning their legal career today?

Try to get as much work experience as possible in different firms and departments before you go for your training contract. Ask lots of questions and try to find a successful senior lawyer to mentor you if possible. Before committing yourself be really sure that being a lawyer is what you want to do.
