BCL Legal is delighted to be assisting a highly regarded national law with a strong reputation is seeking an Employment Solicitor (1-4 PQE) to join its growing Employment team in Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity for a junior to mid-level solicitor to work on a broad range of high-quality, employer-focused employment matters within a supportive and collaborative team.
The Team
The Employment team is recognised for its approachable, practical, and commercially focused advice. Acting primarily for employers, the team supports a diverse client base across the public, health, care, and voluntary sectors - including NHS organisations, private healthcare providers, and other large employers.
The team advises on both contentious and non-contentious matters, and is known for its involvement in complex, high-profile litigation and major workforce projects. You'll be joining a national team but working primarily from the Birmingham office, with a flexible hybrid model.
The Role
Working closely with senior lawyers and partners, the successful candidate will:
Manage their own caseload of contentious and advisory employment matters
Advise on day-to-day HR issues including disciplinary, grievance, capability, and equality matters
Draft and review contracts, handbooks, and HR policies
Represent clients in Employment Tribunal litigation
Advise on TUPE, redundancy, and restructure processes
Assist with client training, business development, and multi-disciplinary project teams
You will be working with high-profile clients, particularly in the healthcare and wider public sectors, and will be encouraged to take on responsibility and develop strong client relationships from an early stage.
About You
You will be a qualified solicitor with:
1-4 years' PQE in employment law
Solid experience of both contentious and non-contentious matters
Strong drafting, communication, and organisational skills
A commercial, client-focused approach
A genuine interest in working on the employer side, particularly in the health or public sector
Advocacy experience (desirable but not essential)
