Employment Advocate (Senior Associate / Principal Associate) | National Law Firm | 4+ PQE | Employment Tribunal Advocacy | UK / Hybrid
A leading national law firm is seeking to recruit an experienced employment lawyer with a strong focus on advocacy to join its market-leading Employment, Pensions and Immigration team. This role offers the opportunity to specialise in Employment Tribunal advocacy, acting for some of the UK's largest and best-known employers in complex and high-value matters.
The position forms part of a highly ranked national team with ambitious growth plans and an outstanding reputation for client service. The role can be based from any UK office, operating under the firm's hybrid working policy, with travel required to attend Employment Tribunal hearings nationwide where necessary.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced employment lawyer (4+ PQE) to play a key role in the continued growth of a national practice, working closely with Partners and contributing to the strategic direction of the team.
The Role
You'll join a Legal 500 and Chambers-ranked Employment, Pensions and Immigration team, providing specialist advocacy and employment law advice to a diverse national client base.
Your work will primarily focus on Employment Tribunal advocacy, including:
Advocacy at Employment Tribunal hearings, from case management and contentious preliminary hearings through to multi-day full merits hearings (in person and by video)
Representation in complex claims including:
- Discrimination, whistleblowing and detriment claims
- Unfair dismissal and wages claims
- Jurisdictional and disability preliminary hearings
- Managing a mixed caseload of contentious employment matters in line with internal and client SLAs
- Drafting tribunal responses, pleadings, bundles, witness statements and reports
- Providing employment law advice on unfair dismissal, disciplinary and grievance processes, whistleblowing, discrimination, detriment and equal pay
- Supporting Partners in driving the growth and development of the practice
- Assisting with the supervision and mentoring of junior team members where appropriate
Drafting articles and legal updates, and supporting client training and business development initiatives
Working in accordance with firm values, procedures, and financial targets
You'll be part of a collaborative national team of Partners, Associates and Solicitors, recognised for its technical strength, commercial approach, and strong client relationships.
About You
We're looking for a motivated and technically strong employment lawyer with a genuine interest in advocacy. You will have:
- 4+ years' PQE (all candidates with relevant experience will be considered)
- Proven experience in employment law, with a strong advocacy focus
- Employment Tribunal advocacy experience, including multi-day hearings (preferred)
- Excellent technical knowledge across core employment law matters
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Ability to manage competing deadlines and work to targets
- A proactive, flexible and team-oriented approach
- Ideally, experience mentoring or supervising junior fee-earners
