General Counsel & Company Secretary | Affinity Water | Hatfield, Hertfordshire
Affinity Water is the UK's largest water-only company, supplying high-quality drinking water to more than four million customers across South East England. As the business embarks on a £2.3 billion investment programme and navigates a period of significant regulatory change, it is seeking an exceptional General Counsel & Company Secretary to play a pivotal role in its future.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, with a close working relationship with the Chair, the General Counsel & Company Secretary will sit on the Executive Leadership Team and act as a trusted adviser to the Board and its committees.
This is a broad, high-impact leadership role, combining strategic legal counsel, corporate governance and executive leadership. Building on a strong legal and company secretarial function, the successful candidate will strengthen legal's influence across the organisation, enhance governance and risk management, and help shape the decisions that will support the long-term success of the business.
Key priorities
· Acting as a trusted adviser to the Chief Executive, Chair, Board and Executive Leadership Team.
· Leading and developing the legal and company secretarial teams.
· Supporting effective governance and Board decision-making.
· Developing strong relationships between legal and teams across the business.
· Advising on regulatory change, major strategic initiatives and significant commercial matters.
Affinity Water is looking for a qualified lawyer with broad legal and commercial experience gained within a UK regulated environment. Candidates will need strong Board exposure, practical corporate governance experience and the credibility to advise and influence senior stakeholders.
Water sector experience is not essential. Applications are welcomed from lawyers with experience across utilities, infrastructure and other complex regulated industries.
Affinity Water has a collegiate, people-focused and non-hierarchical culture. The successful candidate will be commercially minded, pragmatic and able to build trusted relationships across the business.
The role is based in Hatfield, with an expectation of three days in the office each week.
