Salary:

Reference Number:
WB/195568
A Chambers-ranked finance practice is seeking an associate to join its lender-side finance team in Chicago.
This is an off-track position, designed for attorneys who want to continue executing sophisticated transactions at a high level without the long-term expectation of building a book of business.
The practice represents financial institutions, agent banks, lenders, underwriters, issuers, and borrowers on complex financing transactions across the United States.
Unlike many large firms where finance is one practice among dozens, this platform has spent more than a century establishing itself as one of the country's premier finance-focused institutions, combining boutique specialization with national reach and reputation.
The Work
The role focuses primarily on representing lenders in:
* Secured and unsecured credit facilities
* Revolving credit facilities
* Term loan transactions
* Letters of credit and liquidity facilities
* Acquisition financings
* Syndicated lending transactions
* Cross-border financings
* Asset-based lending facilities
* Restructurings and refinancing transactions
Attorneys also gain exposure to public and municipal finance matters, including transactions involving governmental and quasi-governmental entities.
Representative Transactions
Recent matters have included:
* $500 million acquisition financing for a major technology borrower
* $400 million secured revolving credit facilities involving U.S. and Canadian borrowers
* Multi-currency syndicated facilities involving U.S. and European operations
* Complex lender-side restructurings involving international collateral packages
* Credit facilities for multinational manufacturers, consumer finance businesses, semiconductor companies, food processors, and other market-leading enterprises
The practice regularly advises on transactions ranging from approximately $100 million to $500 million+, including cross-border and multi-jurisdictional financings.
Who This Role Is For
This opportunity is ideal for an attorney who:
* Enjoys sophisticated lending and finance work
* Wants to remain in private practice
* Values long-term stability
* Prefers execution over business development
* Seeks a sustainable, long-term legal career
* Has no desire to spend the next decade chasing partnership for partnership's sake
This is not an opportunity for someone looking to step away from challenging work.
It's an opportunity for someone who wants to continue handling sophisticated transactions while building a more sustainable career around being an exceptional lawyer.
Why Consider It?
* High-end lender-side finance work
* Nationally respected finance platform
* Off-track structure
* Reduced pressure around business development expectations
* Exposure to sophisticated banks, financial institutions, and corporate borrowers
* Long-term career stability
* Boutique culture with national-scale work
In a market where most opportunities require some form of compromise, this role offers a rare chance to remain close to the most interesting work while stepping off the traditional partnership treadmill.
