Managing Partner at Owens Solicitors

The managing partner of Luton-based Owens Solicitors shares her passions and interests with The Brief.

How do you like to start the day?

My day starts about 6.00 am with meditating on the word of God (I have a daily Bible reading) and praying. I then go to the gym before I go to work

What’s your favourite object in your office/home office?

My recliner at home – this is my peaceful place of meditation. At the office – My Alexa Show, I play very soft Christian music or listen to my favourite radio station (UCB) on it throughout the day.

It's my companion. I couldn't go through a day at work without this.

Who is your closest colleague?

My closest colleague is another sole family law lawyer; we've been a rock of support to each other for more than 15 years. We can support each other effectively as we both understand what we go through in the business/professional.

Do you have a favourite family heirloom?

A gold cross pendant that I inherited from my mother.

What’s your favourite song of all time?

The Lady in Red” by Chris de Burgh.

What’s your favourite play?

I don't really have a favourite play – anything goes for me so long as it is not violent.

Who’s your favourite movie star?

Denzel Washington.

What’s your favourite book?

Harry Potter.

What book are you reading right now?

I am not reading any books right now. The last book I read was Nobody's Girl by Virginia Giuffre.

What book do you wish you had written?

I've never wished or thought about writing a book. It's not really my thing.

What’s the greatest invention of all time?

For me, it’s AI, it is amazing how dramatically it accelerates my productivity and creativity. However, the key to using it effectively is keeping human judgment at the centre and to remember it is a tool, not a human replacement.

Is there a sport you wish you could play?

Golf.

Who inspires you in business?

Michelle Obama is someone I greatly admire. Although she's not a businessperson per se. Her leadership, authenticity, resilience, and ability to inspire others are qualities I aspire to emulate in my own business and professional life.

In the office do you dress up, dress down or somewhere in between?

I dress up – I've always dressed up all through my professional life. I enjoy dressing up and putting on make up.

Where do you go to relax?

A spa – either locally or on holiday.

What country have you always wanted to visit?

Singapore.

Besides your phone, what do you always have with you?

My handbag.

What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is achieving the best possible outcome for my clients. There's nothing more rewarding than knowing that I've made a real difference in their lives.

As a sole practitioner, every client's success is personal to me. I hold myself to a high standard and delivering the results my clients deserve is what I consider true success.

How do you unwind after work?

I sit in my recliner and have a drink. It could be hot, cold or occasionally a shot of Baileys on ice or red wine and reflect on my day, a bit of reading or watch something on Netflix

Finally, what’s your guilty pleasure?

Eating sweets – specifically M&S Percy Pigs – I sneak a packet in my handbag, so I don't have to share them with my children.
