Linklaters has appointed Carl Fernandes as a partner in the financial regulation practice. He will be relocating to Asia but will remain in London for a period of time.

CMS has appointed two new partners in its corporate practice. Financial services M&A partner Emma Clark and private equity partner Edward Holmes.

Hogan Lovells has announced 27 new partner promotions effective 1 January 2022. Irwin Mitchell has appointed Jonathan More as a partner in the construction practice based in the London office. Fieldfisher has appointed barristers Quinton Newcomb and Shiv Haria-Shah as partners to lead a new commercial crime team. The team will be led by Newcomb as head of commercial crime.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer partner Sylvia Noury has been appointed Queen’s Counsel in the latest round of appointments. Noury heads Freshfields’ international arbitration group in London. Specialising in commercial and treaty arbitrations.

Allen & Overy’s Kate Davies McGill has been appointed Queen’s Counsel in the 2021 competition. Davies McGill is a partner in the firm’s international arbitration group.

Herbert Smith Freehills partner Chris Parker has been appointed Queen’s Counsel in England and Wales.

Gaëtan Verhoosel, a founding partner of Three Crowns LLP, has been appointed Queen’s Counsel.

King & Spalding trial & global disputes partner Ruth Byrne has been appointed to the Queen’s Counsel 2021 list.

King & Spalding has announced a number of new counsel, effective 1 January 2022. London-based Jenni Weaver (trial and global disputes) leads the discovery center’s international practice out of the London office.

Dominic Griffiths has been appointed the next managing partner of Mayer Brown’s London office, effective 1 January 2022. Griffiths succeeds Sally Davies who, having held the position since July 2017, will focus on her role as a member of Mayer Brown’s eight-lawyer global management committee.

Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP has announced a number of partner promotions, including Kaisa Kuusk in London. Kuusk is a partner in the corporate department.

Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman has promoted a number of new partners, including two in London. Lee Rubin advises on high-value sourcing deals, particularly in the financial and technology sectors.  Vincent Zabielski advises on a range of construction and infrastructure projects.

Weil Gotshal & Manges has appointed a number of new partners. In the London office Edward Freeman works in the private equity team where he specialises in advising on private equity and mergers and acquisition transactions.  Alexander Horstmann works in the banking and finance group in London as well as the European high yield team, and is admitted as an Attorney at Law in the State of New York.  Hayley Lund is a member of the London disputes and investigations practice, and a member of the international arbitration and trade group.  Jenny Davidson works in the restructuring group in London.

Boies Schiller Flexner has promoted David Hunt and Prateek Swaika to partners in the London office. Hunt focuses on international arbitration, with a particular emphasis on investor-state disputes.  Swaika is an experienced solicitor advocate handling high-value, complex disputes on behalf of funds, banks, corporations, governments, heads of state, and high-net- worth individuals.

Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has elected a number of new partners, as of 1 January 2022. They include London-based Leo Kitchen, Adam McWilliams and Karabeth Ovenden. Kitchen’s practice centres on complex commercial and financial litigation.  McWilliams focuses his practice on international arbitration, and has deep experience working with infrastructure, construction, energy and mining clients around the world.  Ovenden’s practice focuses on over-the- counter derivative products risk management and related disputes, insolvency matters, and complex commercial and tax disputes.

Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP has announced that four new partners, Wim De Vlieger, Till Lefranc, Isabel Berger and Hugo Hernández-Mancha, are joining the firm’s corporate practice in London.

Norton Rose Fulbright has announced the appointment of a new banking and finance partner, James Collis, to its London office. Collis is an experienced acquisition and leveraged finance lawyer. He also has experience working on restructuring and distressed finance matters.

Linklaters has appointed Jessica Jenner as a partner in the firm’s real estate finance practice and part of the corporate and structured lending group in London. Jenner specialises in all aspects of real estate finance, representing both sponsor and creditor clients on multi-jurisdictional transactions, with a particular focus on the UK and Europe.

CMS has welcomed partner Jaspal Pachu to its employee incentives practice. He has significant experience of advising on cross-border tax and incentive matters, private equity transactions, employee ownership trusts and joins with a broad corporate tax background.

Ashurst has announced the appointment of Adam Jamieson as a partner in the London dispute resolution practice. He specialises in advising financial services firms, listed companies and senior individuals involved in internal and regulatory investigations. Jamieson has significant experience of representing clients in regulatory enforcement investigations conducted by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority.

Pinsent Masons has appointed Claire Hughes as global head of real estate. Hughes joined the firm in 2007 and specialises in real estate investment and asset management, property development and real estate finance. She is a dual qualified chartered surveyor and solicitor with over 30 years’ experience in the property market. Hughes advises clients on acquisitions and disposals of freehold and leasehold investment properties, as well as acting for office occupiers, retailers and leisure operators. Hughes has been head of client relationships for the firm’s real estate sector and head of the London property practice for over eight years. She succeeds James Crookes who will continue to lead the firm’s property practice group.

Weightmans and RadcliffesLeBrasseur completed their merger on 13 June 2022 to create the new Weightmans LLP.

DAC Beachcroft has announced the launch of a new corporate insurance & risk (CIR) division, created to service and manage liabilities and risk for corporate clients. The new division will be part of the firm’s claims solutions group (CSG). DACB partners Victoria Kennedy, James Tallant and Rob Williams will head the new division, as commercial directors, supported by a dedicated sales director. They will lead a team of over 80 legal claims and risk specialists with industry-specific expertise. Drawn from across the firm’s claims solutions business, the team includes partners Corrinne Sinker, Liz Duley and Sally Roff. CIR will initially focus on the retail and consumer, leisure and hospitality, construction and engineering, transport and logistics and manufacturing industries. Longer term, it will look to focus further on other industries including real estate, media and entertainment, and technology.

DAC Beachcroft has appointed Udara Ranasinghe as the new location head for its London headquarters. Ranasinghe takes over from Matthew Darling, and will serve a three-year term beginning from 1 May 2022. Ranasinghe is a partner in the firm’s employment, pensions and immigration practice and specialises in healthcare- focused employment law.

DAC Beachcroft has announced the promotion of 17 colleagues to partner with effect from 1 May 2022. The new London- based partners are: Charlotte Halford (commercial & technology); Darryn Hale (health, care & public law); Eleanor Ludlam (cyber & data risk); Jack Holling and Will Naylor (both insurance litigation).

Stephenson Harwood has welcomed the arrival of Kristian Shearsby as partner in its London office. Shearsby is a corporate lawyer who specialises in the life sciences and technology sectors. He advises businesses on a broad range of matters across all stages of their development – from early-stage to publicly listed companies – including venture capital investments, private mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, equity capital markets, joint ventures and general corporate advisory work.

Stephenson Harwood has appointed Nicholas Stretch as a partner in its London office. Stretch is an experienced incentives lawyer, who has for more than 25 years advised on employee share plan and executive remuneration issues for both listed and private companies.

Dan Smith has joined Stephenson Harwood’s commercial litigation practice in London as a partner. Smith’s practice primarily focuses on large and complex international banking and finance litigation. He advises financial institutions and corporates on high-stakes commercial disputes and investigations, particularly in the areas of investment banking, insolvencies, and bribery and corruption.

Ince has appointed Oliver Storey as a partner in its corporate team in London. He has a range of experience in London’s corporate finance market, including advising listed and private companies, investment funds, private offices and government departments on their financing needs. He has significant fundraising, transactional and merger and acquisitions experience.

DLA Piper has announced the appointment of a new global co-chair for its global scholarships programme. Corporate partner, Jon Hayes, who has also recently been appointed as senior partner, will take on the new role on the GSP board, replacing former senior partner, Andrew Darwin.

Dentons has promoted a new senior executive team in the UK, Ireland and Middle East (UKIME) region with the appointments of Darran Stevenson as chief operating officer and Helen Simpson as practice partner. The newly created roles replace the managing director role. Stevenson joined Dentons in 2021 as chief finance officer UKIME. He is an experienced commercial finance director with over 20 years’ experience across a number of finance and wider operational leadership roles in professional services businesses. Since joining Dentons in 2009 from Linklaters, Simpson has been a commercial disputes partner, board member and most recently interim divisional leader for the UK disputes division, as well as being a member of the firm’s CSR and I&D committees.

Shearman & Sterling has announced a number of new partners including Sam Whitaker, a member of the compensation, governance & ERISA practice in London, where he provides the full range of employment and benefits advice on transactions and stand-alone employment matters.

Weil Gotshal & Manges has announced that Lois Deasey has joined the  firm as a partner in its global restructuring practice, based in Weil’s London office. Deasey was formerly a restructuring partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Her expertise covers complex UK and multi- jurisdictional restructuring transactions and insolvencies, advising companies and their stakeholders on distressed and special situations.

Milbank has announced that Matthew Brown has joined the London office as a partner in the global project, energy and infrastructure finance (PEIF) group. Brown has more than 20 years of experience, with a particular focus on energy transition matters, in addition to all aspects of project development and finance within the energy and infrastructure sector. In addition to his work with companies in the energy transition space, Brown has significant experience in the oil & gas, power and renewables sectors. He also has an established shipping practice in which he advises vessel owner and lender clients on financing and development matters for all types of vessels – from LNG and LPG vessels to FSRUs and FPSOs – as well as projects involving offshore infrastructure.

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has welcomed Dasha Sobornova to the firm’s structured finance team as a partner in the London office. She advises arrangers, investment managers and issuers on a wide range of structured finance work with a particular focus on CLO transactions.

Dr. David Ramm has joined Crowell & Moring’s corporate practice in London as a partner. Ramm, with a scientific and engineering background, has over two decades of experience handling private equity, venture capital, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and commercial transactions in the technology sector. James Esterkin has re-joined Simpson Thacher & Bartlett’s real estate practice as a partner in the firm’s London office. He specialises in complex real estate acquisition and development financing, non-performing loan financing arrangements and the restructuring of real estate-related secured debt.

Payne Hicks Beach has promoted two new partners. Victoria Hingston becomes a partner in the family team. Hingston advises on all aspects of family law with extensive experience in private law children matters, both international and domestic. Emma Harris is promoted in the private client team. Harris joined the firm in 2020 and deals with complex probate and estate administration. She has experience in obtaining foreign equivalents of grants of probates, resealing of English grants overseas, and resealing here of Commonwealth grants.

Fieldfisher has announced that Robert Shooter has started his term as managing partner. Shooter joined the firm in 2002 and became a partner in 2006. He is a technology lawyer and acted as head of the firm’s technology, outsourcing and privacy practice between 2012 and 2022 and also led the firm’s technology sector team. He has been a member of the firm’s executive board for a number of years and focuses in particular on innovation in law.

Reynolds Porter Chamberlain has appointed Shai Wade as a partner and head of international arbitration. Wade will be based in London and joined RPC from Stephenson Harwood on 30 May 2022. During his 25 years of practice, Wade has led many arbitrations arising from infrastructure, to international sale of goods, upstream oil and gas and energy, joint venture, partnership and shareholder disputes.

Manolete Partners, the insolvency litigation financing company, has appointed Mena Halton, head of group legal, to the board of the company, effective 24 June 2022. Halton joined the business in 2014 and became head of group legal in 2018. Prior to this Halton worked in private practice and in-house for insolvency practitioners conducting insolvency litigation, having qualified as a solicitor in 1985.

D Young & Co has appointed James Cornford as a partner in the firm’s electronics, engineering & IT patent group based in the Southampton office. Cornford has extensive experience in the electronics and mechanical engineering sectors, specialising in 3D printing, agricultural systems, digital watermarking and medical devices. Russell-Cooke has announced the promotion of four senior associates to partner with effect from 1 July 2022. Penningtons Manches Cooper has recruited a team of three senior lawyers to it intellectual property litigation practice. Paul Rosen is set to join Mayer Brown as a partner in its corporate & securities practice in London. Rosen’s background includes working for private equity clients, including their buy-and-build strategies. Debevoise & Plimpton LLP has announced the promotion of Dominic Blaxill to partner of the firm, effective 1 July 2022. Blaxill is based in the London office and a member of the firm’s mergers & acquisitions group.

Sidley Austin has welcomed Tony Downes as a partner to the firm’s M&A and private equity practice. 

Shearman & Sterling has appointed Shameer Shah as a leveraged finance partner in the finance practice, based in London.

Osbornes Law has made a number of promotions. Family lawyer Claire Andrews has become a partner.
